People need food and biology plays the key role for providing food supply. Biology is a theoretical basis of agriculture and environmental protection. Nature conservation and nature restoration are seen as the main tasks of Biology.
Biologists are employed at research institutions and biological, agricultural, environmental and fishery laboratories, educational institutions, nature conservation inspectorates, national parks and reserved forests, game ranches and botanical gardens.Entrance examinations: oral interview (exam) on the topic of the Master-programme.

19.04.01 Biotechnology
The field of professional activity of graduates who have completed the master's program includes:
- research, production and application of enzymes, viruses, microorganisms, animal and plant cell cultures, products of their biosynthesis and biotransformation;
- creation of technologies for obtaining new types of products, including products obtained using microbiological synthesis, Biocatalysis, genetic engineering and nanobiotechnologies;
- development of scientific and technical documentation and technological regulations for the production of biotechnological products;
- implementation of biotechnological processes and production facilities in accordance with the laws and regulations of national and international acts;
- organizing and conducting quality control of raw materials, intermediate products and finished products.

19.04.03 Animal food production
Technologist of meat processing is a leading specialist who deals with the wide range of activities in concern of raw reclamation and producing various products like preserves, sausages and smoked meat products raw. The students are trained on a complex biotechnological basis as the combination of engineering subjects (Math, Mechanics, Physics etc.) and biological and food Chemistry, Animals morphology, Microbiology, Nutrition physiology and Food Chemistry. This specialist focuses on planning and design of meat processing production, technological control, quality control and food security.
Technologists of meat processing are employed at meat processing enterprises, slaughter units, research institutions and educational institutions.

36.04.02 Livestock farming
Livestock farmer is a specialist who deals with efficient keeping of animals and their welfare, stock breeding, livestock reproduction and arrangement of fodder base.
The students are employed at agribusiness enterprises, zoos, research institutions and educational institutions, nurseries and factories that produce fodder and fodder additives.

35.04.07 Aquatic bioresources and aquaculture
The main direction of research work of the Department is to Increase the productivity of aquatic biological resources by improving the created fish breeds and developing technologies for the production of fish and non-fish products of aquaculture. Work is underway to create a new type in the Altai mirror carp breed in order to increase precocity against the background of high female fertility.
